Bulk Bag Filler Types

  • Semi-Automatic Bulk Bag Filler — Operator hangs the FIBC on four hooks manually, inflator fan opens the bag, fill cycle runs to target weight. 8–12 bags/hr for 1,000kg bags.
  • Fully Automatic Bulk Bag Filler — Automatic bag pickup from magazine, spout detection via camera, robotic hook placement. No operator required after magazine loading. 15–20 bags/hr.
  • Palletized Bulk Bag Filler — FIBC sits on a pallet throughout the fill cycle. Integrated roller conveyor for automatic pallet changeover. Best for downstream AGV/ASRS integration.

How a Bulk Bag Filling Machine Works

  1. Bag Hang & Inflate — Four FIBC loops go onto load-cell-integrated hooks. Inflator fan pressurizes the bag from the top spout, opening it to full dimensions. Fill neck seal engages automatically.
  2. Coarse Fill — Gravity or screw feeder delivers product at full rate. Load cells sample at 10–50 Hz, measuring bag weight in real time.
  3. Fine Fill & Target Cut-Off — At 95% of target, feed rate drops to dribble. PLC compensates for in-flight material (product between valve and bag at cut-off). Final accuracy: ±0.1–0.2%.
  4. Densification & Release — Vibrating table settles product, removes air pockets. Hooks release automatically or via operator. Filled FIBC exits on roller conveyor or fork pocket.

FIBC Types and Machine Compatibility

  • 4-Loop Standard FIBC — Most common type. Compatible with all our filler models. Loop spec: 200mm minimum loop height, 50mm loop width.
  • Circular Woven / Tubular FIBC — No side seams. Requires an extended fill head to accommodate wider bag mouth. Optional steamer port for moisture-sensitive products.
  • Liner Bag FIBC — PE or aluminum-foil inner liner. Requires liner-inflation sequence (gentle air pulse, not full inflator fan) before fill. Available for hazardous goods.
  • FFS (Form-Fill-Seal) FIBC — Bag formed from tubular film on-machine. Integrated heat sealer for top closure. Common in petrochemical resin lines at 15–20 bags/hr.

Accuracy: What the Numbers Mean

Real-world bulk bag filler accuracy depends on four factors beyond the load cell specification:

  • Product bulk density variation: ±10% batch-to-batch density change adds ±0.3% fill weight drift. Solution: hopper load cell with adaptive cut-off.
  • Densification settling: A “full” 1,000kg bag can settle to visually half-full after 30 seconds of vibration. Our machines run vibration during fill, not after — no post-fill surprises.
  • Vibration from nearby equipment: Forklifts, conveyor motors, and adjacent fillers create load cell noise. Our mounting frames include vibration-damped isolation mounts as standard.
  • Spout seal integrity: A leaking fill spout adds 0.5–2% product loss and accuracy error. Pneumatic inflatable seal collar is standard.

Four Numbers to Confirm Before Specifying

  1. Filled bag dimensions (L × W × H): Determines hook spacing, fill head height, and conveyor width.
  2. Fill weight range: Our standard machines handle 500–1,500kg. Machines above 1,500kg require reinforced frame and larger load cells.
  3. Product bulk density and flow class: Carr Index or angle of repose. Free-flowing (Carr <15) → simple gravity gate. Floodable (Carr 15–25) → screw feeder with rotary valve. Cohesive (Carr >25) → agitated hopper + mechanical assist.
  4. Required throughput (bags/hour): Single-head semi-auto: 8–12/hr. Single-head auto: 15–20/hr. Dual-head auto: 25–35/hr. These are real, not catalog, numbers.

Where Bulk Bag Fillers Fail in Service

  1. Load cell drift: Product build-up on load cell mounts creates a mechanical bypass path. Our sealed mounting design prevents this — IP68 load cells tested at 2m submersion.
  2. Hook deformation: Standard carbon steel hooks deform after ~5,000 cycles on 1,500kg bags. We specify 42CrMo alloy steel with 3× safety factor as standard.
  3. Inflator gasket failure: The fill-spout-to-bag-neck seal gasket wears in 6–12 months of continuous operation. Included in the 2,000-hour spare parts kit — 5-minute replacement procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a bulk bag filling machine and a big bag filling machine?

They are the same machine. “Bulk bag” and “big bag” are both trade terms for FIBC (Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container). The difference is regional language — North America prefers “bulk bag,” Europe and Asia use “big bag” or “FIBC.” Our machine fills both identically.

Can one machine handle both powder and granule products?

Yes — if specified correctly at order. The feeder type must match the hardest-to-handle product in your range. A gravity gate handles granules but not cohesive powder. A screw feeder handles powder but is overkill (and slower) for free-flowing granules. Tell us your full product range during the application review and we will specify accordingly.

Is CE certification required for bulk bag filling machines?

For EU import: yes. All our machines ship with a full CE technical file — Declaration of Conformity, risk assessment per Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, and electrical safety per EN 60204-1. Not a single-page certificate — the complete documentation package.

What throughput can I expect from a single-head bulk bag filler?

8–12 bags/hr for a 1,000kg bag on semi-automatic (operator hangs bags). 15–20 bags/hr on fully automatic with magazine feed. These are real production numbers — not catalog speeds that assume zero changeover and perfect product flow.

What’s the warranty?

12 months from commissioning. Spare parts kit for first 2,000 operating hours included.

What Buyers Say After 12 Months on the Line

Real feedback from three production environments — grain, chemical powder, and cement.

We had specified a machine from another supplier based on a PDF quotation. QingXin’s engineer came back and said the auger pitch wasn’t right for our product bulk density and suggested a different filling head. That kind of pushback was unexpected — and correct.

Procurement Manager, Grain ProducerEastern Europe

The chemical powder we pack has variable bulk density depending on batch temperature. QingXin ran a sample test and recommended a different hopper agitator. 18 months in, the machine has not had a single blockage.

Plant Engineer, Chemical Powder ManufacturerSoutheast Asia

We run the cement packer on two shifts, six days a week. The hardened impeller wear liners lasted 14 months before first replacement. Maintenance cost in year one was 60% lower than the machine we replaced.
